How Do We Get Formula Cells to Automatically Update?

I have a spreadsheet that has some formulas. Everything has worked great until recently. Now, when we change the dependent cells, the formula does not automatically update. We have to press F9 to get it to calculate.

Any ideas on how we can get back to the auto-calculate function?

You didn't mention the version, but for 2000, try clicking Tools - Options, select the Calculation sheet and check Automatic under the Calculation section.

That should work. Though, I did log in to the user's computer, and his Excel was set to 'Automatic'. I don't know if it is a file-level setting or application-level.
