Hello Genius guys,

How do we check the dns version in solaris 2.7?

Regd,
Ajay

did you try "#named -v" ?

Regards,

Carlos Almeida,

If you are running the Solaris Implementation of bind (in.named) start the daemon /usr/sbin/in.named and look for the daemon.notice message in /var/adm/messages:

starting. in.named BIND 8.1.2

StickyBit.

Hello Carlos Almeida,

I tried "#named -v".I got the error message "command not found"
FYI--DNS is not configured in this system and before
configuration I want to check BIND Version.

okay, client only (sorry), just use the same:

# /usr/sbin/in.named -v
in.named BIND 8.2.2-P5 Tue Jun 26 16:45:43 PDT 2001
Generic Patch-5.8-June 2001

Best Regards,

Carlos Almeida:

Hello Carlos Almeida,

Please find the output of command which I got.

# /usr/sbin/in.named -v
/usr/sbin/in.named: illegal option -- v
Usage: in.named [-d #] [-q] [-r] [-f] [-p port] [[-b|-c] configfile]

Regd,
Ajay

The version of BIND you are running on your system dosen't support the in.named -v swtich. Read my thread above then grep for BIND in /var/adm/messages. You will see the following message: starting. in.named BIND 8.1.2.

grep -i bind /var/adm/messages

StickyBit.

yes "StickyBit" are right, as far I can remenber Solaris 7 99/11, install bind 8.1.2, and bind 8.1.2 doesn't support "-v" (version) flag, so you can start bind (in.named) and then check "/var/adm/messages" as "StickyBit" sugest or if you don't want to start bind use one of the following:

# /usr/ccs/bin/what /usr/sbin/in.named
or
# strings /usr/sbin/in.named | grep named

these should work with any bind version ...

Kind Regards,

Carlos Almeida.

Just trying to help Carlos! I think this forum is pretty good. Do you know of any others ?

StickyBit

my Sincere thanks to Carlos Almeida for valuable post.

Regd,

"bhawani123", thanks ...

"StickBit", about the forums the "Sun forum" is not bad, but many of the questions have no answer, you also have the same problem in others like "sunguru", you can also check the NNTP like google groups (Sparc and Solaris intel groups here). Soon I think you will have a very good one (Java based) in (thebestabout.com/solaris)...

Kind Regards,

Carlos ALmeida,
