In INDESIGN By default, row height is determined by the slug height of the current font.CAN WE CHANGE THIS?

If I'm understanding correctly, you want to change the row height of a table cell? By default, if you have text and create a table, the row height is based on leading (I think this is what you're calling slug?) plus any offset (buffer). To change this, go to Table > Cell Options > Rows and Columns and from the Row Height pull-down menu choose either At Least or Exactly and enter a value amount. You can also add a maximum amount. Hope that helps.

thanks for the tips Ekwoman :), but what i was referring to is that even when you set the 'at least' value i want to go lower then that, so that the lines is actually touching the text.

Have you checked the 'indent text' values of the table cells? Make them zero - at least on the bottom edge, and that will allow you to move text closer to the bottom of the cell. You can also position text in cells -- at top, middle or bottom. All these options are under the table menu, or displayed across the top of the screen.

thanks everyone for their sincere help, i have finally figured it out!; by increasing the text vertical scale, horizontal scale and adjusting its based line shift i can set the font to appear bigger then its actual point size with out effecting the default slug height. this is the only way ican think of to get around it, if anyone else cares to contribute please do....
