Symptom Unable to remember login
Symptom lost password
Symptom password corrupted
Symptom Cannot log in
Symptom Password is lost
Cause
NETBuilder Remote Office (NBRO) loads configuration
file "system" at boot. "System" contains login password.
Fix
To recover lost NETBuilder Remote Office password:
1. Attach terminal or terminal emulator to console port. Set
for 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity
2. Enter Monitor mode(by doing the following)
a. Locate hardware interrupt switch on left forward side
panel.
The hardware interrupt switch is located on the left side of
the router (when facing the front panel). It is recessed into
an
opening near the DIP switches. Press the switch with a
non conductive object, such as a plastic stylus, to activate
the monitor
firmware utility.
b. Press interrupt switch(your console should not display a
"> prompt"
Note: On some of the new routers you can reboot router
and hit the "escape" key to get a ">" sign on terminal, this
puts you into
monitor mode.
3. Type (below assumes that boot.68k is located at
/primary
bt /primary/boot.68k dummy <Enter> "or"
bt /primary/boot.68k / <Enter> "assuming that there are
not any config files at /"
4. After system boots, log in as root. Press return at
password prompt
5. Remove the configuration file containing the password.
This file is called system. Type:
rf primary/system <Enter>
6. Reboot. The password has been removed. Global
parameters may need to be reconfigured. These are
parameters such as Welcome String, Daylight Savingss
Time, etc.
