How do I???????

I'm a telephone engineer with a good grounding in big Meridian phone systems and I wantto get into the VoIP arena. Unfortunately my current company keep on rejecting any trials/proposals that I put forward.

How can I break into this arena and gain the skills I need to progress?

Well, one way is to change companies to one who is implementing this technology. Or... take some Cisco education classes.

This is a dillemma in any industry - often a company will not train their current workforce ("We need them to manage our current customers&quot, and instead hire new people. The ethics of this are debatable, but all I'm going to say is that it happens in the real world.

The trick is to be the person that they hire to work with the new stuff. And the way to do that is via a lifetime of continuing education, much like physicians do. Just because they've finished 12 years of school and residency, saddled themselves with a quarter-million dollars in student loans, doesn't mean they can stop learning.
