I want to write files to a TTY port ( TTY 1) on my AIX machine. I have defined TTY1 and attempted to issue a command to it ( ls -al > /dev/tty1) but nothing happens. What else do I need to do ?

thank-you, mitchy martell ( famous french race car driver)

when you write to a tty port, the text is going to stream across the terminal attached to that port. so the only way to really know if it is working is to check the screen as the stnd out is being re-directed there. also, check the permissions on the device /dev/tty1, if you are NOT running the re-direct as root, you will need write permissions to the /dev/tty1 device.
