Hey all, I'm going to be putting an ASA 5510 up on eBay and I was wondering how to wipe my information. Is it really as simple as "configure factory-default" and then "write memory?" That seems suspiciously easy. I have no Cisco skills and I don't want to render this device unbootable just before I put it on the auction block.

Thanks,

Joe B

write erase followed by a reload should wipe the configuration, however there might be some files on the flash filesystem that need to be deleted.

I guess I should add that I want the ASA to boot up when I restart it. Will write erase keep the OS intact?

Thanks,

Joe B

•To erase the startup configuration, enter the following command:

hostname(config)# write erase

•To erase the running configuration, enter the following command:

hostname(config)# clear configure all

•To restore the factory default configuration, enter the following command:

hostname(config)# configure factory-default [ip_address [mask]]
