Hi all
I need some pointers on how to use the flashcopy SMcli scripting on a rp5470 hooked to a DS4500. Do I need to use the ioscan command to see flashcopy volumes? ...these and other questions I need help on. You get the idea

TIA

Hi ,

Don't know much on flashcopy is this another disk storage subsystem ? if so have used HP's VA disk arrays and EMC disk array on HP , if the principal is the same then you would need to do the following

1. Make sure the HP servers successful connects to the storage ( i.e. physical fibre cables connected etc..)
1. install the s/w on HP that allows you to create/view disk LUNS
2. once s/w is installed add a lun
3. use ioscan -fnCdisk to view the disks , you will just see the hardware path and no device files
e.g. /0/4/0.0.1.0

runs insf -e to create device files you'll then see something like c4t0d0
you then use this disk to create LV's and filesystems

Hope I am barking up the right tree , and have hopefully shed a bit of light on your query.

Thanks for the input. Flashcopy is somewhat similiar to snapshot on Netapp. It is a real fast way to copy a disk instance for backup. There is a set of commands that you can incorporate into scripts. I have done this on my Aix box but due to the differences in the way the LVM works on both systems I am looking for someone who had done this on HP to keep from inventing the wheel again.

thanks
John

Yes, you will have to run the following once a snap is done.

ioscan

insf

vgimport

Next question is where do I find the script SMCli bits? I have looked on ibms and a hp's site to no avail.
