How do i use a Resource File to define my main window's design?

Ì have created a program and an RC file (Resource File). I know how to create new dialogs with the template from an rc file, but i don't know how to do it witht the main program. and i don't want to use mfc :) is there somewhere in CreateWindow or CreateWindowEx that i can pass an argument that will make the buttons text fields etc, that is defined in the rc file?
