I currently have: ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 11.1(19)AA, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Is the ROM socketed? If so, could I buy a newer ROM? If the ROM is upgraded are there any gotchas?

From what I can tell I can't update it with the same mechanisms I use to update IOS versions.

Thanks.

Hi Andy,

The boot roms are usually not flashable...

You can order free upgrade kits (consisting of the physical chips) form your local Cisco distributor/reseller.
You might require a chip extractor to complete the upgrade job.

Hendrik
