Hi,
I'm a new XP user. I'm having problems with a 'Firewire' device, I belive the hardware is faulty. In trying to force XP to accept it, I have an 'Unknown Device' under 'Imaging Devices' on Device Manager.

If I try to Uninstall the device I get the following message:-

'Failed to uninstall the device. The device maybe required to boot up your computer.'

I've even tried to load up in 'Safe Mode' and try to delete the device, I still get the same message.

Can anyone help?

Some ideas,

Unplug the device, reboot, if still there try delete again.

if delete successful, reboot, plug in device and let XP "discover" it.

If delete is not successful or is discovered as an unknown device, try Update Driver for the Unknown device and choosing to install from a spcific location ...(advanced) in the hardware wizard.

Hope something works. ----

Thanks,

I used the wizard and downloaded drivers off the WinXP disk. They never installed properly but it allowed me to uninstall.

Thanks again
