When I open an existing Microsoft Excel file, and enter a plain number, either it is automatically rounded off or a comma is placed in between the digits. I have checked all the properties, settings, and cell formatting. The cell formatting is set to general; however, the example of general shows a comma in between the digits. There should only be numbers. I tried changing the cell formatting to currency, special, custom etc. and still no luck. I removed and reinstalled the Office completely and still no luck. I noticed that on the lower right-hand corner of the sheet, NUM and FIX are bolded. NUM should be there but FIX should not. I could not figure out how to turn off the FIX option. According to Excel help, FIXED is why numbers get rounded off or a comma is added. How do I turn FIX/FIXED off? Thanks.

Tools>Options...>Edit, and turn off the Fixed option by unchecking that option.
