How do I turn off formatting messages in Excel 2003?

I have Excel 2003. Is there a way to turn off the little icons that pop up automatically when Excel doesn't like the format of what you're typing in the cell (I mean the icons that prompt you to chose from a tiny little formatting dialog box)?

Also, is there a way to turn off the tiny little triangular tags Excel displays on the upper left corner of cells when it doesn't like the format?

I think you need to look at Tools Menu, Options , Error checking tab and uncheck the top box.
