How do I trigger an mp3 to open so it doesn't cover the current page

Hi there,
I'm building a page that has the lyrics of a song on it. And I want to give a link that opens up an mp3 file...
...but I don't want the new page to come over the existing one - as this means people cannot read the lyrics
And I also would really like for something to tell the viewer that the mp3 is on its way....it's a 6MB file and if there's no warning people might just move on!
