How do I tell Arcserve that I'm using the DLT III-XT tapes?

I'm using Arcserve 6.6 IT for Netware, running on Netware 5.1, with a 15/30 DLT drive. The software itself seems to think that I only have a 10/20 drive (standard DLT III capacity), so it only writes 20 gig of compressed data to a tape. According to CA's website, there are flags you can use to tell Arcserve that the drive is 15/30. Does anyone out there know how to accomplish this? I'm tired of using two tapes to complete a backup for 25 gig of data.

The problem may not be in Arcserve but rather in the type of data that you are backing up. Remember that you will not necessarily get a 2 to 1 compression ration on those tapes giving you the full 30 GB of storage. Most backups you can bank on a 1.4 to 1.5 compression rate which would give you around 22 GB of data storage per tape.

I believe you can check in the arcserve activity log as well and see what the actual compression rate was for your backup job (depending on your job detail level).

I believe that the tape drive itself will recognize the type of tape that you have and should format to the proper capacity via Arcserve.

Let me know if this helps.
