SpyBot says all is well. Isn't it suppossed to be the better of the bunch? I will try some things in the articles though. Thanks.

I too am having this problem,
its on a win XP pro machine i dont know really anything about it but what i do know is that this machine is behind a firewall along with a heap of other xp pro machines, none of the others have been infected and it seems the user of the infected machine seems to like to download little tools that claim to do wonders, ie popup killers and speed up tools etc, Ive been thru the process list and all seems normal. as you said, spybots does not pick it up and neither does ad-aware or nortons antivirus.

Yeah, actually I did. I too am behind a firewall on my network, but I downloaded the free version of Zone Alrm Personal Firewall. I cleared out my host file (c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc), installed Zone Alarm and now I have no problems. I realized a big difference in my Internet connection now that I'm not losing the bandwidth to those #$%&amp;@! Zone Alarm let's me choose what programs access the Internet from my PC. Hope this helps.

That's sounds to me like the problem right there. Many of these "helper" programs don't show up as virus or spyware, but can be just as malicious to a network.

If your company has a policy against those things, I'd definitely enforce it. If there is no policy, there needs to be one. If it's a company computer, it's not the user's computer. It's a tool to do the job.
