What is smtp service?
How do I stop smtp service?
It is using the port 25/tcp in /etc/services.
My sco-unix version is 5.0.5.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol

Simply comment out the line, and restart the inetd daemon or reboot.

um no..
that will only break the port number resolution and a reboot is not necessary.
the file you want to edit is /etc/inetd.conf
and then tell the inetd daemon to reread its configuration file

kill -HUP `cat /etc/inetd.pid`

in openserver 5.0.5 you will be running mmdf or sendmail
as the smtp daemon, which is for incoming mail. stopping this service is ok only if you don't want any incoming mail.
