How do I stop programs auto focusing

Hi
Im driven crazy by programs such as IE and outlook jumping up and taking focus as soon as they start to load while im browsing for example i may right click on something and open in new window then switch back to my original page next thing the 2nd page pops up and switches focus to it.
Got any idea how to stop this frustrating habit???

In the Opera browser, if you ctrl-shift-click on a link, it opens in the background (and stays there). Can't help with Outlook, though...
