How do I stop PDF from generating headers and footers?

When I convert certain types of files to PDF documents, the distiller includes the file name and path as headers and footers in the finished document. Where is the setting to disable this? I've poked around in help without much success.

Also, is there a find/replace text function in Adobe 7?

On the first part -what kind of files are you converting to PDF ? and are you saving to PDF out of the native app, or importing into Acrobat 7 standard after a normal save ?
2nd part - you may have to use another tool to search/replace text in a document. Wordperfect X3 can edit PDF files, I don't know of any others....

It's dependent on the app you're using when making the pdfs.

If making them from web pages you have to click the Settings button on the Web capture window and uncheck the headers-footers.

If you're "printing" pdfs, it's often dependent on the print settings, and or preferences, for the application you're using.

There are many editing options on Acrobat Pro. Just look at the Tools menu or View menu/Toolbars to get to them, including text editing. Play around with this as there's a lot there.

Using OSX 10.3.9 & 10.4.11 on a G4, G5 & Intel Macbook

I'm create the PDF by right-clicking on the file name in explorer and selecting "convert to Adobe PDF" from tyhe pop-up menu. I don't know all the file types this happens with, but I noticed this happens with TXT files and HTML files.

I did notice, however, that if I "print" the PDF it uses the page settings, but I hate having to tinker with them every time. There is a checkbox in Adobe Acrobate 7 settings for "including file information", but after making PDFs with it checked and unchecked, it doesn't seem to do anything.

I looked for find/replace in the help file without much success.

Are you talking about Windows Explorer (for local files on your drive) or Internet Explorer (for files you're seeing throught the Web Browser) ?
since it's happening with TXT and HTML files, try opening them and clipboarding the contents into Word or Wordpad, and creating the PDF from the application, rather than from Explorer.....

I was talking about Windows Explorer. Opening a TXT file in Notepad and blanking out the header and footers via "Page Setup" did the trick, but it'd be nice to do it from Windows Explorer with one click...

I am guesing that I have to do the same thing if I open an HTML file in IE or FrontPage.

the Windows Explorer right click operation defaults to making sure you know where the info came from - to make it generic, as you discovered, you have to do a little editing.
with HTML it gets even more interesting - from the beginning of time, IE has truncated the text near the right margin when printing, so you can try printing to a PDF from IE, but I'll bet donuts that you get truncated text. it might be better from Frontpage. You'll get interesting, different results, opening the HTML with MS Word. It will rearrange the frames, but you'll get the text in a somewhat different layout than the browser showed. Give FireFox a try also, see if you like the results any better! for that matter, the recent versions of Wordperfect (X3, X4) are suppossed to be able to EDIT PDF files, so opening HTML and saving as PDF could be an interesting adventure there also.
Good luck!
