I have a user with Outlook 2000 who has automatic forwarding set up in the rules. When the attachments (normally excel files) are sent they are converted into winmail.dat.

If the recipients also have Outlook 2000 this is not a problem, but those with Outlook Express do not even receive the attachment.

I have made sure that the sending machine sends only in plain text format - any other ideas?

Thanks

It's to do with the send as option. Set to send as plain text or HTML not as the middle option Rich Text

It's definately that as I saw it many time's at my old company. HTML or Plain text should both work fine.

Regards

Oops very sorry Emma.

Just read your post back and saw "I have made sure that the sending machine sends only in plain text format - any other ideas?"

Me slopes off embarrassed :)

I have one email that is impossible to delete. When I go to delete this email from the deleted folder, I get an error in a dll. If I move the email to a different folder, I can empty the delete folder. How can I get rid of this email? TIA

I agree that it's a RTF problem. Where are the rules being processed - on the Exchange server? For whatever reason, the mail is still being sent as RTF. For more info see
I can't seem to put my hands on it right at the moment, but somewhere there is an option to set the mail format for individual contacts. This might be a possible solution.

billcorb - post your question under a new topic. It just gets confusing to ask a question in a thread where a dissimilar topic is being discussed.
