Hi,

First of all apologies for my newbie status... I'v just inherited the responsibility for a Sendmail system (consisting of a Mailstore and MTA) that is sending bouncebacks in the form abcxyz@mydomain.com.

This is being routed to an externally-provided spam filter that is designed to trap all mail to @mydomain.com and determine if the first part of the address matches a list. If the address has a match it's released and if it doesn't (the @mydomain.com is OK, but the prefix isn't in the list) it is quarantined for an 'access control' violation.

All well and good so far, except that the external filter has now processed something like 35,000 messages like this over the last 24 hr period! How can I stop the mail servers from sending this mail? I can't see how they are being generated in the first place since the external filter is blocking invalid stuff from outside.

The only thing I can think of is that an internal user's account/s are bouncing mail generated by other internal user account/s and these are then routing back to the external mail filter...

Any help/guidance gratefully accepted!

Thanks!
