Hi

I installed RedHat 7.1 and configured it to load X-windows automatically.

Firstly, once I have logged in via Xwin, how can I exit Xwin (i.e. go back to console mode).

Secondly, and less importantly, how can I change my bootup to be console mode and not Xwin?

Thanks for the help.
Cheers,

Richard

Richard,

Depending on which Desktop you are using, in GNOME, you just need to click on the GNOME paw foot (start in Windowz) and click logout, this will bring you to the console.

To always go to console first, you need to edit your /etc/inittab file.

You probably have;
id:5:initdefault:

Change this to;
id:3:initdefault:

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but you should be able to
exit X by using the CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE key sequence.

If you have linuxconf installed, it has a menu option to do the changes for you. IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries
