i have two hard drives that i want to run simultaneously

one is an 8.4 gig quantum fireball and the other is a 10gig
they both have windows ME on them

i have not tried anything yet because i am not sure if it will work and/or if it will mess anything up

any hints or tips will be appreciated

thank you

What do you mean by 'simultaneously'? (is yours standard PC - no RAID?) Are you looking to boot from either? Use one as data repository. Dual boot with 2 o/s?

i would like to use one as data repository
all i want is to have both of the hard drives accessable so i have more hard disk space

Then its straightforward. Just attach disk with operating system you want to keep as primary master and other disk as primary slave (ie, both connected to the same IDE cable. If you are using an 80 pin cable - for ATA66 or faster drives - master will need to be connected to end, slave to the middle - best like that anyway). Make sure you set jumpers on drives correctly - should be diagram printed on drives(some have different settings for master on its own and master with slave). System should now boot from primary master, with primary slave showing as D: drive (assuming one partition per drive). If this all ok, you can format second disk (after backing up anything you want) to make it all available for use.

that got it
thanks...one problem arose

i have 2 cd-roms...one dvd rom and a cd-burner

it only recognizes one of them when they are both connected to the same IDE cable

You need to set the Master/Slave jumpers appropriately. Set the device not now recognized as a slave.
