Greetings all,

I am a novice at best when it comes to sendmail so please forgive me for my question. I am wanting to setup a Solaris 8 server with the stock version of sendmail (8.11.6). That of course is the easy part. I would like to enable my domain to use this machine as a forwarder for email to the internet. I have thus far tried a few different things, but have been unsuccessful so far. Any help or pointers that others could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Blaine

/etc/mail/access is the file to edit...

Mine is something like this...(See below) Allowing hosts inside our network (10.0.0 and 10.0.1)to relay out. We're not running this way normally, but I tested it for the purposes of answering your question and my own curiosity, and it worked.

If you install Webmin (webmin.com) it would be under Sendmail's Spam Control section. I highly recommend webmin, as it made configuring sendmail 100% easier.

# Check the /usr/share/doc/sendmail/README.cf file for a description
# of the format of this file. (search for access_db in that file)
# The /usr/share/doc/sendmail/README.cf is part of the sendmail-doc
# package.
#
# by default we allow relaying from localhost...
localhost.localdomain OK
localhost OK
127.0.0.1 OK
10.0.0 RELAY
10.0.1 RELAY

compuveg,

Thank you for your response. I tried the solution that you offered, but was unsuccessful. The error I am getting back says "Local configuration error" dsn=5.3.5. I believe this is an error related to DNS, something about the mail loops back to me. I am very familiar with DNS, and the only change I have made is the creation of an alias (CNAME)called mailhost that tells the other machines that mail relayhost is the way to send SMTP. Any ideas? I have been working on this problem for about a week now. Also, if you know of any good sources on the internet I would greatly appreciate that.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.
