I want to send a message to a computer that pops up on the screen. Can anyone help.

Are you talking about Net Send? Just type Net Send from the run line or a command prompt and then type the computer name and your message. Like this without brackets []
net send [computer name] [message] -Brad
A+, MCSE NT4, MCDBA SQL7

-Best cartoon of all time :-D 'Spongebob Squarepants' [cook]

If the remote computer is Windows 9x it will need to be running "winpop"

If the remote computer is on another broadcast network, it wont receive the message. (unless you configue the router/switches to pass the traffic)

eg. you're on - 10.0.0.0/8
remote pc - 10.1.0.0/8

If you want to the same message to everyone in the domain look for a free productg called NetHail. You can select single computers too. If you tend to send the same message to everyone, it will save messages so you don't have to re-enter them each time.

Win98 clients (as others have said) still require the winpop program to be running.

Dimaware LANMessage is another good one so that you can have a gui interface instead of dos or going into server mananger (for NT stations)
