I have attached an old Laserjet 4M Plus to a small Win2000 network via its network card. I have pinged the printer's IP address and got a reply, but when I go to "add printers" the printer is not visible. Can anyone help? The printer's card and the router both indicate the connection is OK.

If you have connectivity to the printer then you need to set up a standard tcp/ip port.

Go to add a printer, select local printer connected to this computer (not network printer)
Create a new port, standard tcp/ip
Type in the ip address as your printer name
Your printer should now have been found and the printer wizard should then take you through selecting the make & model of your printer.
The last thing to do is print a test page. If you want to rename it to something sensible then just right click and change

Hope this helps
