How do I save ONLY ONE record from a DAP for Ebay?

Hi guys,

I hope I can get a little help, in part, or in whole.

Background: I am a full time Ebay seller of High end men's clothing. I spend ENDLESS hours in FrontPage writing the auction listings for each item. This IS necessary, because each item is different, i.e.: measurements, images, description and a lot more. Obviously I am trying to get Access to generate the HTML auction listing to same me some time. I have been able to get an Access Data Page (Access 2002) to change the Image URL(s) for the corresponding item as I scroll through records, and change the visual, and numeric description(s) based off of table data.

Problems:
1) I can't seem to figure out how to save ONLY ONE record of the DAP, that correlates to that particular item. All I get is HTML that scrolls through all the data. Yes I know I can delete the scroll bar, but then I only get the first record as an HTML page, & ALL the code is still there which leads to the next problem.

2)Ebay is very strict on what source code can be in a listing, and Access outputs code that is not necessary (for me), and some of it is probably restricted by Ebays system. Sometimes Ebay's system will harmlessly strip out the violating code (and you pray it still works, or looks correct), or it will just not accept it at all.

So,,, How do I get Access to out put ONLY the record I need in HTML, and how do I get rid of the code that is unnecessary?

This is only the first phase of what I would like to do with Access. Next is customer data, buying trends, what (and who) the un-sucessful bidders were bidding on, etc.. My problem is time, I just don't have enough. Actually, I am not adverse to paying someone to write this if it is reasonable.

Thanks

Try with a query:

Select * from [your query] where [your field] = [your criteria]

Where you need to put that query depends on how you "save" the record (i.e. whereto) or if you simply want to display that one record in a form/DAP.

MakeItSo,

Thank you. What I ended up doing (based on your suggestion) was having an action query that creates a new (1 record) table. .

However, I still have the problem of Access generating the DAP with HTML code that Ebay's system strips out. Which of course removes the Data in the HTML that comes from Access. OR Basically: All I end up with is the original HTML template with OUT(missing) the table data. Back to where I started :(

From what I have discovered so far. There is no way to have Access generate the DAP any other way. What may be necessary is an outside module that will interface with that particular (single record) table from Access, then have it do a search and replace with FrontPage (or what ever) using a pre-defined LABELED searh-set/criteria. Would you happen to know if something like this already exists? If so, where it can be obtained? I thought about using something TextPipe, but what a pain to use for something so simple.

Thanks

Hi Pete.

I'd recommend setting up a clean ASP page with frontpage.
Just create a new blank page and save it as *.asp.
In Frontpage you can then go to the toolbar and
Insert -> Database -> Databse results.

There, you can either choose a suitable query from your database or define your own.
I know, that Access DAPs are anything bit clean HTML...

Hope this helps,
Andy
