Howdy,

Does anyone have any tips, tricks, FAQs, URLs, or white papers on running the various Cognos tools on Citrix? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

*Gulp* I'll try this...but there may be issues ahead for you

Which version are you planning to run? We run V6.1 and had a number problems getting it going. Somewere caused by Terminal Server, some were fixed with patches from Cognos.

MOST IMPORTANTLY:
Do you know that Cognos won't support Terminal Server (even in their latest version)? Thus my best tip is:

If you ever have a problem, try it from the console of the server. This way it is exactly the same as an NT/W2k workstation. When you speak to tech support (and trust me you will) make sure that you don't mention Terminal Server - tell them it's w2k Pro.

Also, in V7, there is no way to configure different user settings. In V6 the cer1.ini file had an option "Impromptu State File Location=" that could be set to user's home drive. They have removed this setting for V7 (and claim that removing it is an enhancement?!?). We have been assured that there is fix on the way, but it's already overdue. We'll see.

We haven't tried the Enterprise version - budget issues - but if you haven't bought it yet, get together with Cognos, explain everything that you want to achieve (including Terminal Server), and get them to confirm it's possible.

If you have more questions, post your e-mail address, and I can try to answer them for you.

Good Luck
Cheers,
Sam

Thanks. Good information!

I did get some "unofficial" internal information from someone at Cognos about running on Citrix. Even though it's not supported, they do have a lot of customers doing it.

Please feel free to email me at Sam.Pawley@VerizonWireless.com if you'd like to compare notes on it.
