I would like to keep track of the amount of data that is currently stored on the tape media so I know when to switch out tapes. When I re-label a used tape, the statistics from the old label remains making hard to know for sure how much data is on the tape. I want to use a simple tape rotation scheme. I have 6 tapes, 1 full backup job bi-weekly and a incremental job nightly that amends to the tape. The oldest tape is used to continue this scheme.
The problem is, Veritas remembers stuff I don't want it to remember. I want it to think that the re-labeled tape is new.
Is there a way to delete the existance of a tape from Veritas database?

Delete the tapes catalogs might do it.
I say this because I had to reinstall the software and all stats are gone. Doesn't hurt to try I guess (I think I will when I go to work today)

Your message is confusing. Do you want the data on that tape? When you Label a tape, the data on that tape is destroyed, so I am assuming you do not need or want the data on that tape anymore.
If you want BE to think a use tape is new, try a Long Erase, if it is supported by your hardware. Note however that this will destroy all data on the tape. Also, the previous writer is correct. Deleting the tape catalogs would only temporarily eliminate the record of what data is contained on the tape. When you do an inventory/catalog on the tape, BE will find the original label.
However, I would recommend not doing any of this for one reason. Some of the stats that BE tracks are things like "hours inuse", bytes written, soft and hard read and write errors. If you wipe those, BE will not properly track these stats and you could consequently have a tape go bad on you without your knowledge until you try a critical restore.
