Hi,
Hopefully this is a simple question, but you never know...

Basically I want to measure the usage of some (or all) of the applications that are running on our Citrix MetaFrame setup. We have a feeling that some of the apps aren't being used at all but want to get some definitive answer on which apps, and how many times they are accessed (which users would be a nicety but if available why not?).

Does anybody have any ideas? I thought I would be able to get something like this through the billing functionality but it seems not.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Andy,

If the applications are not being executed, they will not show up in the Billing Reports of RM. In order for an application to report usage, they must execute for a period of 5 seconds and use 1% of the systems CPU. This qualifies the application as used...

Do you have access to the Application Profile's in Resource Manager? If so, this drop down will list all applications that have been executed in the environment, who used them, and also the number of times the application was executed by each individual.

If you desire additional farm data, you may want to check out Lakeside Software's, SysTrack. As you may know, they were the original producers of the core technology found in Resource Management Services. (
Good luck!

I assume you are using RM as Binkie suggests. Another app you might consider is Appsense Performance Suite.

Many thanks binkie and Scott.
I think that with your help I have now *almost* got to where I want (isn't that always the case?)

I can now see that I can get a report of usage per application within specified dates, which is exactly what i want. However, what is stopping me doing this is the fact that the RM database isn't being updated due to a server error, meaning that I can not get current reports (there is no recent data to report on), and not all of the applications appear in the process drop down list, since presumably these need to be available in the rmdatabase.

i think its best if I start a new thread since this sounds like a different issue. many thanks for your invaluable help in getting me this far. :)

Hi,
With the help of member on this site (thanks!) I've now resolved the connectivity issues which were stopping the summary database from being updated, so now I'm back to the original issue.

Basically I want to report on process usage, and I can see that the processes I am interested in are being listed in the processes tab of all 3 of the WTS servers in Management console, and yet not all processes are listed in the Process List in RM / Reports tab / 'Process summary' button.

Does anybody have any idea why this may be happening?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Andy
