How do I remove characters from data fields? 1

Rather new to MySQL. I just imported a database from MS Access into MySQL. For one field, I have a URL that the import added pound signs to the url (#

http://www.site.com/cgi?xxxxxxx#

instead of

http://www.site.com/cgi?xxxxxxx)

How can I remove all and just leave xxxxxxx?

create another table with same structure, or a temporary table then


INSERT INTO new_table
SELECT REPLACE(urlfield, '#', '') from old_table


This will select the field you store the url in without the # and then reinsert it in a new table.

I would think that:

UPDATE old_table
SET urlfield = replace(urlfield, '#', '')

would also work, but without having to use a temporary table.
