Hi,
I'm using Win 7 Pro 64-bit.
At one point I added Excel to open .txt files in Windows Explorer. Now that option shows up first in the context menu so every time I double click on a text file, Excel attempts to open it. I want to remove Excel and go back to Notepad as the first option in the context menu (which shows as the second option). How do I do this. I looked in the Registry, but was unable to come across anything that looked like I could change.
Thanks,
Vic

Did you try:

Changing File Associations in Windows 7 (Default Programs)
[ul]
[li]Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Default Programs.[/li]
[li]Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.[/li]
[li]Click the file type or protocol that you want the program to act as the default for.[/li]
[li]Click Change program.[/li]
[/ul]

Andy,
Thanks for your response. But I did do that and Excel still shows as the first choice in the context menu. So when I double click on a .txt file, Excel tries to open it because it's the first choice in the context menu.

There are also a few utilities floating around that will do this for you. For example Default Programs Editor, which you can download from Softpedia.

I haven't used this myself, so don't take this as a personal recommmendation, but it looks like it will do the job.

Mike thanks for your suggestion.
But Andy's first 'here' link did the job. Thanks Andy. That was really bugging me. I'll try to be more discerning in the future. LOL
