I'm trying to print the powershell quick reference guide
The problem with it is that it is on legal paper i.e. 21.59cm x 35.56 cm. My printer only prints A4 i.e. 21cm x 29.7cm.

I've tried Scale to Paper Size in the print dialog but that doesn't work - it asks for legal paper and chops about 6cm of text off the end.

I've tried changing to A4 but that doesn't even display the document properly.

I'd reformat it but whoever created the document doesn't know a lot about flow layouts and has decided to create text boxes all over the place so everything is in a fixed position. It is quite a lot of work to shift the boxes in.

Is there a quick way of scaling the document to fit A4 paper?

What about creating a new file, copying and pasting the text from the original to the new file, and print from there?

I tried that: the text boxes are all over the place. Text boxes have their uses but this is definitely not one of them. The author must have spent absolute ages aligning and resizing them. Some people just don't know how to make life easy for themselves.

Hmm, here's a thought - probably still won't work, but a thought nonetheless...

What about converting the document to a PDF document, then see if you can get it to print differently from within Adobe Acrobat or Reader?

That is clearly not designed to be re-scaled. Best I could do was to select all the textboxes on a page and group them, and do the same for each page. Then I had four group shapes that I could print on individual A4 pages - a bit of a chore but it only took a minute or so.

Enjoy,
Tony

I'm working (slowly) on my own website

The acrobat idea worked... except everything is a bit small but I can live with that. Squinting is better that not having the information.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what is wrong with my copy of word but pasting text boxes seems to be a nightmare. Just copy 3 aligned text boxes and paste them in another document and thery're all over the place. I wonder which option in paste special puts them in the correct place relative to each other.

Maybe I'll rewrite the doc the way it should have been written and publish it.

According to what TJ said, you could have grouped the text boxes in order to get it to print to your specs.. But if you're done with it, I suppose that's all that matters for now. ;0)
