Hey all,

I've had to remove some VMs from my inventory (ESXi with 230 gigs) but the space they were using hasn't been recovered by ESXi. Is there a "house cleaning" task I need to run in order to recover virtual disk space that's no longer needed by a VM that's been deleted?

Thanks,

Joe B

I just go into the storage with VIC and delete the files/folders for the VMs that have been removed from disk.

When I was born I was so suprised I didn't talk for 18 months

biglebowski, after fumbling around I finally found out that I can get into the "Datastore" and find the files you mentioned. Your directions were a little vague but you did help me find what I was looking for so here's a star.

I've deleted two VM folders but when I tried deleting the third VM's folder and I got the following error message:

General fault caused by file.
/

I tried deleting the files inside the folder one at a time but I still get the same error. I restarted VIC but still no joy. I'm looking at the System Log but when I try to delete the VM files and and come back to it it's not showing anything new. More assistance please.

Thanks,

Joe B

Otherwise, go in to the command console for the ESXi server and browse to your datastore and try deleting your files that way

How to get to hidden ESXi console:

I need somebody to slap me. Yeah, yeah, take a number. Anyway, apparently in Inventory I changed the name of a server to something else and the original files in the Datastore still had the name from the original server. Once I got that straightened out the VM files were deleted without any additional difficulty. Thanks to all for the help and guidance.

Thanks,

Joe B
