Hi,I am trying to remove all historical sales data, employee info, and any other proprietary information from our micros 3700 system prior to selling it. The "Purge Historical Totals" button does not seem to work...any suggestions? I appreciate your help.

Thanks

In my opinion, you should NOT sell the original hard Drive with your system OR wipe the drive clean and re-install the OS. This assumes you have all the original software. Depending on the version of 3700 you have (going back to the day you installed it), you may have credit card info on the hard drive as well. To protect/delete your data, these two options are best. Good Luck.

For a fee, the local Micros office may perform this task too.

Unfortunately, this is not an option. We don't have the software anymore and can't affort to pay Micros any more money that is why wer are selling. Business and LLC no longer exist and any of our banking information is no longer valid. We erased all Social Security numbers from the employees. But the sales reports still run with daily sales figures as (Any Restaurant, USA) as we changed restaurant name. Can you give short list of places to check to clear any other vital info like credit card info of customers as I am more worried about protecting them than us...as we no longer have anything to protect. If we lose the hard drive we lose the Micros and any ability to recover some of the loss. Thanks Again!

From what I understand you can't just Buy a Micros system from someone and use it. It is possible to sell the hardware as peices of a system. When Micros sells a system it is licenced to the original buyer, that license is not transferable, you can buy suport from Micros and purchase a license for a usefd system but it winds up costing as much as buying a new system and then you have an old system for the price of a new.

I doubt many people have the knowledge to set up a a system and get it running properly (credit cards) without suport from Micros.

Very good point AZRobert. Micros licensing is such that the new owner of the system must purchase licensing but it still winds up being several thousand dollars cheaper than buying a brand new system. The business looking to purchase the system is already aware of this and has talked with Micros about that. However, I am just looking to delete any critical info that we don't want to put into the hands of strangers prior to giving it to them.

First, if you bought the Micros system new from a Micros dealer then you either; got the software and lost it OR never got the software, in the later case you are entitled to receive what you paid for. If you never got all of the original software, then request it in writing and send them a copy of your sales contract.

Keep in mind Micros dealers pay nothing for the 3700 software, they pay for the software keys and sell those keys to end-users. Dealers have access to and can load 3700 software onto any pc, it's having or not having a key that makes it of value. So if you did clean your hard drive, it would only cost the "installing" Micros dealer the labor time to re-install the OS and the 3700 software which is likely less than one hour. All you need to do is hand the key over to the buyer.

If your Micros 3700 POS version was ever less than 3.2 then it is very possible there is credit card data on the pc and you should take any necessary steps to protect yourself. If you have a buyer and they have agreed to pay Micros for the re-license and training then have the buyer ask Micros to load the OS & software at the buyers expense. Then you could clean the drive and hand it over.
