I am trying to place my Movie Clip (which I can double click on in the library and play its timeline and it works great). This clip has four layers, and its time line is correct with a total of 80 frames. I am confused by how I get the MC to launch after frame 20 of the main movie is reached and continue playing even after the main movie has reached its end (i.e. the movie clip is a graphic image that I need to keep looping but the rest of the Main Movie will simply be static after the last frame of the main movie is reached). I have tried creating a new layer in the main movie and then dragging the movie clip to the stage at a keyframe on frame 20 but it is not working correctly. I have been up too many hours trying to figure it out and can't think straight anymore... Thanks for your help... Keith Buchanan

I've had similar prblems in the past. The solution I used was this:

Place your movie clip on frame 1 of the main timeline and name it by going to the instance properties box. Also, make sure that frame 1 of your clip is left blank [with a stop (); action] so it doesn't show when the main movie starts. If you want it to loop then also place a keyframe at the end of the clip and give it this action:

gotoAndPlay (2); [myclip being the name you assign your clip]

Add a keyframe at frame 20 on a layer on the main movie called actions.

Add this script to that keyframe:

myclip.play ();

you may find that

myclip.gotoAndPlay (2); works better, it sometimes does for some reason.

Also, make sure that it is a movie clip, you can tell by the icon next to it in the library [blue flash icon] or right clicking it and going to behavior.

If this make no sense to you [I'm still half asleep so may have explained it badly] just say, I'll explain better.

Like Funky said... Place the MC on its own layer on frame 1 then go to the last frame of your main timeline and hit F5.

Make sure the 1st frame of your MC is blank with a stop action and frame 80 (or the last frame of your MC) has a gotoAndPlay(2); action.

On frame 20 of your main timeline you simply have an action to tell the MC to start playing.

_root.yourmovieclip.gotoAndPlay(2);

It will then play endlessly regardless of the main timeline. Ya' Gotta Love It!

I hate to sound stupid but I have tried to do exactly what each of you said and am having no luck... do the actions need to be in their own layer as well or do the actions go directly in one of the MC layers?? as well on the Main Movie timeline do I ad a layer for actions and write the scripts there or do I add the scripts to one of the existing layers of the main movie.. fyi, the clip is not starting to play at all when I do test movie... the clip is definitely a MOVIE CLIP SYMBOL, that part is right.. if I actually double click on the Movie Clip symbol and go into editing mode and run test movie it runs perfectly and is what i want to transfer and loop in the main movie.. but my scripting is not right because the main movie doesn't even start to play the clip even though I have a _root.mainclip.gotoAndPlay(2); line in my main movie a frame 20 which is when I want the MC to start playing.. also the name of my movieclip in the INSTANCE properties box is mainclip ?? can someone help me I am an idiot.. and have been working on this with no sleep for two days as the client wants it done and my get paid dead line is SOON!!

It's hard to see what's going on (or not going on as the case may be) without seeing it first hand.

I'll do a quick example of how I do it and upload it for you, then you can see if it's any different to your's. Or you can send it to me at the address below if you want, and it's not tooo big - I'm on a 56k dial up..... funkymonk B-)
