How do I mute the handset on M7324?

Seems like this should be a rather simple thing to do however I can't seem to do it. The phone has a handsfree/mute button and if you press it once the call goes to handsfree and pressing the button the second time it puts the call in mute however it remains in handsfree. If I pick up the phone then it goes back to the handset however its no longer muted. Does anyone know how to mute the call on handset?

Hello I've seen T7316E handsets with thumbwheel volume control and "press to mute" button but not sure where to get one. Maybe an internet vendor.

yup the only way to mute a Nortel handset is to get a 3rd party replacement
