I am doing system utilization analysis on Sun Solaris 2.5 and 2.6. The accounting system provides good data but it does not give ppid and pid information. The accounting system makes a seperate entry for every command entered.

I need to be able to group these commands by jobs/scripts. I know that the pacct file gets written to by the kernel, and that the file format comes in from /usr/include/sys/acct.h file, but I'm not sure if modifing this file would be the answer.

Any help with these questions or if you are doing some kind of system utilization analysis and have suggestions I am always open to suggestions
