What is the best way to merge data in approach? I'm tracking software version year over year. I have one file listing servers and software application with our version in January 2007. I need to merge the version we had in 2006.

Ideally I'd like
Server SW Application 2006 Version 2007 Version
BLUE Tivoli 1.0 1.5

But what I get is 2 records....

Server SW Application 2006 Version 2007 Version
BLUE Tivoli 1.5
BLUE Tivoli 1.0

If you are importing text files, the only option you have is "add records". Assuming you have a text file, open it with either Approach or 1-2-3 or even Excel and expand the columns (if in 1-2-3 or Excel) so that all of the data shows. Then you can SAVE AS a .dbf type of file. In Approach a .dbf will be created automatically.

A .dbf file can be used to add and update records -- you match up on one or more fields for the update option.
