I would like to maximize Outlook 2003 from the minimized to taskbar state when a new email is received. Currently, all I can find and implement is the desktop alert message.

Is this procedure possible?

Thanks,
David.

I can only think how annoying that would be to have Outlook popping up every 15 minutes or so, I find the desktop alert message annoying enough when I am busy working on something.

But to answer the question; No there isn't.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the response.

The reason for this was the Outlook email is located on the 911 dispatch operator's desk. The Outlook is always open and minimized and the popup alert message is configured. The school in the next town ran an emergency response test for a lockdown and part of the test involved emails sent to the 911 center. The dispatcher was busy with other issues and did not see the popup alert. After the test was over I received a phone call from the Officer at the school wondering why the email wasn't received at the dispatch center. After checking I told him it was but had not been noticed by the dispatcher. Hence the idea of maximizing the window to get their attention.

That's the story.

Is there some standard wording in the Subject or body of the e-mails?

If so, you could create an Outlook rule that triggers a "New Item Alert" window. If they have speakers you could also have it play a specific sound.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response cmeagan656.

Nothing consistant in the body of the emails. No speakers on the dispatchers workstation that has the Outlook. Speakers are on the radio/phone console.

Does anyone know if this would be possible with Outlook 2007 or 2010? I have both and could install either if it would work.

Thanks,
David.

I have 07 and 10 installed on multiple systems here at work and to the best of my knowledge and playing around, no is the answer there too. Ill doubles check 10 as I have 07 installed on this machine and no dice.

Closest thing I can find to what you are looking for is on 2010. It has a "Display Desktop Alert with Enable a Preview for Rights Protected Material." Basically it pops up a little notification window in the bottom right of the screen and plays an audio tune when a new message arrives.

There is prolly a way to make a script handle that and pop up the email full size, but inherently in Outlook, not so much.

Thanks for your help guys, well at least we tried. Right now it has the alert popup and a loud sound that can't be heard. I'll try for the speakers I guess, don't know what else to try. I've explained this to the Officers to not rely on email for emergency traffic. Sometimes it could take two days for the email to arrive!

Anyways, thank for the help.
David.

You can put a function in the receive event. Same as with other events in Outlook.
You could also use withevents, however I am still looking into this myself.
