Hello everyone. i just redesigned my corporate intranet site using sharepoint. This stuff is awesome. My users are loving it. The announcemnts and events have become quite popular with my users which brings me to my question. Some users tend to post long announcemnts and events which takes up more space on the main page. So is there any way i can configure it so that after certain amount of characters or lines, it will show "read more" or something like that. Happy holidays to all.

how do i make announcement posts shorter?

What I have done is create a new default view and left just a few fields such as Title or Name, Start Date / Time, Finish Date / Time, Location. Then if whoever is looking at it wants more info they can just click on it to get all the details. I'm not sure if this suits your needs or not.
PS: To create a new view, go to the list, click on modify settings and columns, then create a new view.
