When you install Windows 2000 server, you will notice that the rdisk utility is absent.
This doesn't mean that you're not able to use rdisk to make your repair disk.
Take the rdisk.exe utility from a NT4 machine and copy it to the Windows 2000 machine.
Rdisk will work on Windows 2000 as well, BUT you will have to expand the ERD files after you create them
This way, when you can't boot your machine (even in safe mode), you can go into the Recovery Console and copy the files from winnt\repair to winnt\config.
Trying to expand the files in the Recovery Console will not work...
This means that the files will have to be expanded allready
This is the script I use to create the rdisks :
@echo off
cls
rem Rdisk for Windows 2000
echo Begin creating ERD files for Win2K
echo.
echo Deleting old ERD backup files *.ARP
del %systemroot%\repair\*.ARP /q
Echo Backing up old ERD files
For %%i in (%systemroot%\Repair\*.) Do REN %%i %%~ni.ARP
Echo Creating new ERD files
rdisk.exe /s-
Echo Expanding new ERD files
For %%i in (%systemroot%\Repair\*._) Do Expand %%i %%~pi%%~ni
Echo Deleting compressed ERD files
del %systemroot%\Repair\*._ /q
echo Finished creating ERD files for Win2K
