Hello everyone,

I have an Access 2K database on the network with 20 users. The database produces reports already but users are asking to be able to select there on report criteria. I've never done this before so how do you do it?

If someone can just put me on the right track it would be great!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

There is more than one way to do it. The simplest is to base the report on a parameter query. Make a query to pull all of the information that the current report is using (if it is already based on a query you can skip that part). Then in the criteria line of the fields the user wants to select put [Your message here]. The query will run when the report is opened and the user will see an input box with your message on it asking them to input an appropriate value.

Hi jebry,

Thanks for the fast response. I don't want to come across stupid but what is a "parameter query". The select queries are already built for the reports. Can I just use these?

Cheers

Hi again!

Yes, use the queries already built and add what I posted before to the criteria line of the appropriate fields and you will have a parameter query.

To repeat, what you need to add is [Type your message here]

The [] are necessary and the message you type in should direct the user to enter an appropriate value for that field.
