Hi.

Through the browser, how can I access a file that is in the root directory and is not an index file? For instance I want to view an .htm file that's in the root directory...do I set the URL to I know this is wrong, but how do you do it?

In addition, how do you set the URL to go outside the html folder that contains pages, images, index, etc., to another folder like cgi, database, etc?

You advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
DanH

to set the link to a file in your root just

then in order to view someting outside the root dir. you will need to get the absolute path. like
d:\html\users\yourdomaincom\root

I've never done this however and am not sure if you will be able to access these files. Someone else should know though and I'm sure will psot a better explanation to that question
I'm trying, really I am!

Hi all,

The absolute path would only work on server side scripting, anything else and the browser would try to find that file on the users hard drive.

You cannot reference a file outside the root directory unless you set up an aliased directory.

Hope this helps Wullie
