Can anyone advise me if there is an edition application that I could use to easiy make an exe program with that will run in Linux or some other variation of an open source language?

I have a lot of experience with Visual Basic 6 but hardly any with C so I am looking for something hopefully easy like the the VB6 graphic editor and compiler.

I have written an application in VB6 like an Airport flight departure info screen that takes data from a SQL query on a MSAccess database and shows the ever changing information in jumbo size proportional rich text and small graphics & .AVI files.
All the screens are monitors with a small built in computer on a LAN so I need an app for the server and an app for the monitors.

I would like to break away from Microsoft so any advice on what programs I might need to do this would be appreciated.

I know it is reinventing the wheel but I would have created this as a web application ( running on a central web server).
each display could then be a lightweight kisok displaying the necessary page, probably using ajax to refresh the data every few minutes.

you could also creat a variety of diferent pages that could be dispayed in diferent locations.

using this aproach would meen that any design/layout changes would only need doing once on the web server & noty require a recompile of the programm & instalation on all the hosts.
