Is there a command I can use to list the contents of a tape in the tape drive. I'd like to confirm a backup.

Thanks,
Alain

It depends on how the tape was made...
If you know how it was backed up, you can view it. If you did a mksysb in smit,
you can view the contents through smit as well.

Listing of backup tape:
restore -Tvf /dev/rmt0

To verify a mksysb do a
restore -s4 -Tvqf /dev/rmt0.1 > /tmp/mksysb.log
or use the SMIT menus.

List contents of a tar backup: - Operates as tar -x but doesn't create files
#tar -tvf /dev/rmt0

List contents of a cpio backup: #cpio -itv < /dev/rmt0

Unknown tape format:

Backup and verify mksysb:

I did a backup, your
restore -Tvf /dev/rmt0
worked like a charm.

Thanks for the help.
