Hi guys.
I've just brought a scsi(a non-sun branded card, but brought from a sun certified reseller) card and a HP dds2 tape drive..
Did a boot -r.
But how do I know that they are working.
I tryped dmesg, but could not see anything about scsi.

Also, can I use a MS created tape in solaris. I need to get data from the tape, but I am not to sure that solaris will read the tape.

thx

If you can init 0 to the boot prompt you can run the following to diplay what hardware is attached

probe-scsi-all
or
when system is running
Look through the recent /var/adm/messages files

prtconf -D
prtconf -v

You may notice something

Here are steps in adding a new board. Earlier I asked what
was your platform Architecture?
1. Shut the system down to the ok prompt
2. At the ok prompt run this command: ok show-devs
Copy down the contents so that you can compare after
installing the new board.
3. power the system off
4. install the new board
5. power up to the ok prompt.
6. run the show-devs, does the new board show up?
7. If you don't see the new board the there is no need to
boot -r. There is a problem related to the new board.
8. If the new board is seen by the show-devs then do a
boot -r.
Look at the messages file or dmesg and you should see something about the new board.

Are you installing a scsi board to run the tape drive?

thx for you help guys.
Basically I want to get the best performance out of my sun ultra 10 333 machine.
So I'v brought a UW scsi card, and waiting delivery of a scsi hard drive.
The tape drive will be used to backup my current stuff on the ide harddrive.

My win2k machine has decided to go to an unrecoverable BSOD fit for the thired time in the last week.
I'm hoping to use my sun machine as a primary workstation.
I'l be soon using database stuff, java development, data mining software on the sun(as soon a I find descent and free apps).

As u can tell I will defiently need a scsi connection.

This ide interface does not work as well in the sun machine than a pc machine.
I swear sun should of stayed with scsi for the entry level systems. I got my scsi UW card for 180 euros. A lot cheaper than sun branded cards.

Anyway any other advice much appreciated.
thx..

Sorry for the typos , this type 5c keyboard is falling apart. Going to get the new type 6.
