How do I know if it's working.

Hello, I've got a bunch of old Cisco switches.

Model WS-C2980G-A Catalyst 2980G Switch 80 10/100Tx (RJ-45) 1000x (GBIC Slots).

I want to give them away to a friend, but I am not sure if they are operational or not.

How does one test to see whether these particular switches are working or not?

Plug them them and in about 5 minutes all the front lights are green they should be ok. Otherwise plug into the console and open a terminal emulator set for 9600,8n,1 and watch it bootup when plugged and it will take you to a switch prompted when booted.
