How do I install VFP Runtime on Win98 system

I've always distributed my Win98 FPD programs with WinZip. Program files and Foxpro Runtime files were unzipped in appropriate directories and users were off and running.

Now I'm tinkering with VFP7. I've built a project and EXE. I copied the runtime files (VFP7run.exe, VFP7r.dll, VFP7enu.dll) to the end user. The EXE won't run - errors due to 'unlicensed runtime'.

How must I deploy my runtime VFP7 programs so they're 'licensed'?

Thanks.

VFP7 ships with InstallShield Express for building a proper Windows installer. The installer will see to it that all necessary files get bundled, installed, and registered properly. This is particularly important for an older OS (Win98) which pre-dates VFP7 itself.

For more info, there's a Word doc called "deploy.doc" or some such on the VFP CD. It's a white paper about deploying applications.

May I put my pennyworth in?

With VFP up to version 6, I've been using Setup Generator Pro - because the install is so easy for the end user.

They have no options, everything goes where I want to find it later. I get desktop icons, shortcuts, fonts installed and the application where I expect it to be. This makes support SO much easier.

Am I to understand that VFP 7 and above cannot be installed in the same way? Have I got to use the MS approved technique?

This would not be exactly fantastic for me, and my users may not be very impressed either - they are often a little less that 100% PC literate (and their IT departments often kill any ambitions they have to be... I don't even want to go there!).

Griff,
The simple answer is "maybe"! Does Setup Generator Pro use standard Windows Installer technology? Does it use MSMs?

The ISE that comes with VFP 7.0 and 8.0 can do all the things you mentioned and more. And because it uses the MS supplied MSMs, the workstations will be updated with those sometimes critical support files for each potential OS you choose to install it on. It also follows the official standards of where system files should go - especially critical in XP and beyond.
