The best way to do this is to use a font management program, which will allow you to either install the font or just load the font for a short period of time (this option is usually the best, as the more fonts you have installed in your system the more it takes for it to load).
A couple of font managers that I think are great are Typograph and Extensis Suitcase.
You might want to check download.com for other managers (including free ones).
